London Scouts: The importance of scouting in the lives of children

There are things you learn in school that can help you succeed in life like math, science, literature, history, and among others. Many things can be learned in the four corners of the classroom. However, there are skills that you can’t simply learn from your teacher that’s why it’s important for kids to engage in various activities outside of school.

This is where scouting comes in handy. At an early age, children get to develop life skills necessary for them to survive not only the wilderness but also the world of grown-ups. The London Scouts can help kids learn the basic life skills they need. Sign your kids up for the organisation and help them reach their full potential

Reasons why your kid needs scouting

There are various reasons why your kids need to join a scouting organization like the London Scouts including:

  1. Having fun

Scouting isn’t a serious place in the first place. Although important life skills are taught in the organisation, it’s still important for kids to have fun while learning. Through fun physical activities, your children will be able to develop intellectual, spiritual, and social skills. There are creative ways for your child to learn how the world works and they’d be able to experience it in London Scouts!

  1. Having a place among peers

At a young age, children should be able to develop their worldview so that they can fully understand and appreciate the things around them as they grow up. Engaging with their peers can help them develop many things including social skills that’ll help them in their lives ahead. Through this experience, they’d be able to find out for themselves their place in the world and among their peers.

  1. Scouting is a worldwide movement

Many countries across the globe have scouting organisations that are interconnected. Although these groups have different goals and missions in their local communities, they operate under the same philosophy: giving children a place to grow and learn how the world works. Since its foundation, scouting has continued to grow. Over the years, it’s expected that the group would expand to more than 216 countries.

  1. There’s no discrimination, it’s open for everyone

Scouting isn’t just exclusive for the elite and rich, anyone all over the world can be a part of the mission that scouting exemplifies. The organisations are open to all race, origin, class, or creed. If you truly believe in the group’s philosophy, you’ll have a place within its ranks.

  1. A code to follow for the rest of your life

Although scouting is mainly for children to participate in, a scout’s honour remains intact for as long as you live. Being a part of the scouting community is a personal commitment that one should put above all else. Scouts need to learn how to incorporate the group’s philosophy into their everyday lives. It’s an honourable lifelong commitment that can be a great source of pride and inspiration.

Tips on how to become a good boy scout

With more than 100,000 members nationally, Scouts Canada is the nation’s premier youth-serving organization. Scouting has been active in London, Ontario for over 100 years, and we have been an integral part of the history and development of our strong city.

If you become a new member, with every camp and every community service project, Scouts Canada makes one simple promise to Canadian youth, parents and society:

               Scouts have fun adventures

               discovering new things and experiences

               they wouldn’t discover elsewhere.

Along the way, they develop into capable,

               confident and well-rounded individuals,

better prepared for success in the world.

Scouts is the start of something great.

               It starts with Scouts.

Aside from being one of the most popular activities among the youth, scouting teaches children practical skills and knowledge that they can use in everyday life. Becoming a good scout may seem easy, but it takes time and dedication for people to become skilled in scouting.

Are you interested to know how to become a good and competitive scout? Here are some of the tips we can give you here at London Scouts!

Follow rules when you’re in the field

When you’re a scout, you must learn how to abide by the rules and follow the instructions of your leader. One of the most important requirements of being a scout is being a good listener because it shows how fast you can pick up and adjust to the guidelines set by your team lead.

Be a good communicator with your teammates

Being a good scout means you need to be a good communicator. When you’re in the field, one of the things you need to master is your communication skills. Activities during your scouting will involve a lot of teamwork, therefore, you need to learn how to create a good communication connection with your fellow scouts.

Set an example for the younger scouts

If you’re a senior scout, you should learn how to set a good example for the younger members of the team. Remember that you will be the guide they will look up to, so make sure that you show them a positive attitude that they can imbibe as they progress through their scouting years.

Be a consistent scout

Consistency is important when you’re a scout. Even more so when you’re one of the senior members of the team. If your leader or other teammates know that you can perform and are consistent with it, it will have a positive effect on your career as a scout.

Be flexible with your tasks

When you’re a scout member, you should learn how to become flexible with your tasks. One of the most important things about being a scout is being able to adjust to the tasks given to you. Master this skill by exposing yourself to other tasks such as building tents, making fire, and cooking meals.
