With more than 100,000 members nationally, Scouts Canada is the nation’s premier youth-serving organization. Scouting has been active in London, Ontario for over 100 years, and we have been an integral part of the history and development of our strong city.
If you become a new member, with every camp and every community service project, Scouts Canada makes one simple promise to Canadian youth, parents and society:
Scouts have fun adventures
discovering new things and experiences
they wouldn’t discover elsewhere.
Along the way, they develop into capable,
confident and well-rounded individuals,
better prepared for success in the world.
Scouts is the start of something great.
It starts with Scouts.
Aside from being one of the most popular activities among the youth, scouting teaches children practical skills and knowledge that they can use in everyday life. Becoming a good scout may seem easy, but it takes time and dedication for people to become skilled in scouting.
Are you interested to know how to become a good and competitive scout? Here are some of the tips we can give you here at London Scouts!
Follow rules when you’re in the field
When you’re a scout, you must learn how to abide by the rules and follow the instructions of your leader. One of the most important requirements of being a scout is being a good listener because it shows how fast you can pick up and adjust to the guidelines set by your team lead.
Be a good communicator with your teammates
Being a good scout means you need to be a good communicator. When you’re in the field, one of the things you need to master is your communication skills. Activities during your scouting will involve a lot of teamwork, therefore, you need to learn how to create a good communication connection with your fellow scouts.
Set an example for the younger scouts
If you’re a senior scout, you should learn how to set a good example for the younger members of the team. Remember that you will be the guide they will look up to, so make sure that you show them a positive attitude that they can imbibe as they progress through their scouting years.
Be a consistent scout
Consistency is important when you’re a scout. Even more so when you’re one of the senior members of the team. If your leader or other teammates know that you can perform and are consistent with it, it will have a positive effect on your career as a scout.
Be flexible with your tasks
When you’re a scout member, you should learn how to become flexible with your tasks. One of the most important things about being a scout is being able to adjust to the tasks given to you. Master this skill by exposing yourself to other tasks such as building tents, making fire, and cooking meals.
